Materials

  • Acrylic:  The pinkish part of the denture.  Beware;  there are different qualities of acrylic, the difference being strength and possible mouth tolerance.  Acrylic is made from monomer (liquid) and polymer (powder).  Some residual monomer can be found in the denture even after it is finished which some people develop an allergy to.  Heritage Denture Centre uses Ivocap injection-type acrylic which virtually eliminates any residual monomer in the finished product.  It is a premium acrylic and healthier for your mouth and body.
  • Denture Teeth: There is a large difference in the quality of denture teeth available.  Most standard teeth are mirror opposites of each other, with similar color shading throughout, resulting in a monotone look.  Premium denture teeth arenot made mirror opposites of each other, each being individual.  The color shading changes throughout the tooth, resulting in a very individual appearance.  Other differences are strength,  durability , and chewing ability.  We have developed a comparison / educational  guide for your benefit.
  • Metal:  Most partial denture metal frameworks are made from a chrome-cobalt  majority mix. It is widely used and accepted and for the most part patient tolerated.  With that said there are some individuals, who due to health issues have tolerance concerns.  In these cases , or when an individual wishes a pure material placed in their mouth, a titanium metal framework can be made.  Benefits are a pure, lightweight material, which is the most body  compatible material known to mankind.
  • Remember, dentures (complete or partial), fit inside the body and can influence your health.  There are materials which are better for you than others.  Ask what is going into your mouth.  We are here to answer your questions.

Quality Choices

Marc Wagenseil has been trained in procedures, which provide his patients the quality option of either a standard denture or equilibrated denture.  Please continue reading to inform yourself of these options.

Standard Denture:

Is a denture made using average acceptable technique and an average acceptable product.  It requires 4-5 appointments lasting no longer than 30 minutes each.    The denture is expected to last approximately 5 to 9 years, then need replacement. Most dentures in North America are made using this method.

Standard Denture with Premium Materials: Is a standard denture but made with premium materials, as used in an equilibrated denture,  instead of average materials. This extends the lifespan of the denture.

Equilibrated Denture:

Is a denture made using precise technique and premium materials. It is made to more exacting measurements thus giving a better fit.  It requires approximately 7-9 appointments lasting no longer than 30 minutes each.   The denture is expected to last double the time of a standard denture (10 to 18 years)  before need of replacement.

  • Three quality types are offered to suit the patients’ expectations, needs, and financial considerations.
  • Not all dentures are created equally.  You get what you pay for.  The goal in our office is to educate the patient on quality issues so that they can make an educated decision as to what is best for them.
